Summer Sunday Reset: The Secret to a Smoother Week

Ever feel like Monday hits you like a freight train? The laundry is overflowing, the fridge is empty, and you can’t remember the last time anyone actually found a matching pair of socks. If you’re nodding your head, let me introduce you to a little magic I call the Sunday Reset.

This isn’t about creating a Pinterest-perfect life. It’s about buying yourself some peace and sanity for the week ahead. Think of it as your gentle launch pad into a new week—not a pressure-packed to-do list, but a rhythm to help you breathe a little easier come Monday morning.

What is a Sunday Reset?

A Sunday Reset is a simple routine to help clear your space, reset your mindset, and prepare for the week ahead. It’s less about perfection and more about preparedness.

My Simple Sunday Reset Routine

Here’s what my typical Sunday looks like—feel free to copy, tweak, or totally make it your own:

1. House Pickup (30 mins)

The kids know it’s coming. Most Sunday evenings I tell them it’s reset time and everyone pitches in. Pillows back on the couch, shoes by the door, dishes in the dishwasher. It’s amazing what we can do in a short amount of time. If they are whining – set a timer! I even feel a little more motivated if I know we are not going to be cleaning for hours!

2. Plan the Meals

I jot down 4-5 dinner ideas (nothing fancy—just real food I know my crew will eat). I peek in the fridge, toss what’s expired, and build a grocery list if needed. This saves me from the “what’s for dinner?” panic. I have started using the digital calendar on my phone to track what we are eating for the week.

3. Family Calendar Check

We all go over the schedule. Who needs to be where? Any school camps, appointments, or birthday parties coming up? I even try to think of a few fun things for the week and write itdown. We have been using a Skylight calendar for a whilte and I LOVE it. It helps everyone feel more prepared.

4. Personal To-Do List

I find I accomplish more if I have a written list of goals. Right now there are various areas that need my attention so I make sure and write out what I personally want to check off my list. A few tools I use:

  • Apple Calendar (I’m a Mac girl but I’m sure Google would be great, too!)
  • Apple Reminders. OH I love all the digital lists I can carry with me.
  • A PAPER weekly planner. I love all the digital options, but there is something about handwriting my to-do list! It gives me a way to look big picture at the week. I LOVE this one.

5. Self-Care + Reset

This is something I’m struggling with but know it’s important and am trying to incorporate. Taking a little time to get my mind set for the week -a walk outside, a bubble bath, journaling, or a cup of tea while I read. It’s my way of saying, “You did enough today. You’re ready.”

Why It Works

A Sunday Reset doesn’t erase the chaos of motherhood, but it does help you feel more in control. It’s a gift to your future self. And honestly? It’s a way to start your week from a place of intention instead of reaction.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need to do it perfectly. Even choosing just one thing to reset—your meals, your laundry, your mind—can make a big difference. Pick what feels doable and build from there.

Your Monday self will thank you!

See you tomorrow with a fun activity to try with your kids this summer!!
